Nine-year-old airlifted to Lubbock following crash with City of Odessa vehicle

ECTOR COUNTY, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) - The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating after a child was hit by a City of Odessa vehicle Thursday afternoon.

According to a report from DPS, at about 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 26, troopers responded to a crash at the intersection of Pile Ranch Road and Valley Road. Preliminary information revealed a City of Odessa Utility vehicle was traveling westbound on Pile Ranch Road, approaching the intersection, when it hit a nine-year-old child who was riding a bicycle. DPS said the child was transported to Medical Center Hospital in "stable" condition. 

A social media post from the boy's family said he was in a medically induced coma at the time of posting due to his injuries from the crash, suffering from a skull fracture, hemorrhaging on the left side of his brain, three broken ribs, and bruised lungs. The boy was reportedly later airlifted to Lubbock.

DPS said the crash remains under investigation. We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
