Midland College (MC) will hold a press conference on Monday, March 20, at 11:30 to announce this year’s See MC/Sí MC event. During the press conference, the Midland Chamber of Commerce and the Midland Hispanic of Commerce will participate in a ribbon cutting. Chevron Corporation will be recognized for its sponsorship of the event.
See MC/Sí MC will take place on Saturday, April 8, in order to provide Permian Basin residents with an opportunity to visit the MC campus and talk with academic program personnel, financial aid advisors and college faculty. The free family event includes career presentations; college information booths; FREE hamburgers; outdoor activities for children and teens; presentations about first-generation-to-college experiences; tours of the MC campus; and presentations about scholarships, financial aid and the college application process.
During the press conference on March 20, college officials will announce the theme for this year’s event and discuss the importance of the event for enhancing a “college-going” culture in West Texas. The event is especially targeted to first-generation-to-college families.
“We want to take the intimidation out of attending college,” said event coordinator Alfredo Chaparro, MC director of Community Services. “College is for everyone. We want families to explore the opportunities available at Midland College and discover the advantages that a college education provides.”
Complimentary yard signs and posters will be available at the press conference, and the MC Engineering department will provide complimentary ice cream made from liquid nitrogen.
This will be Midland College’s fifth year to host the popular See MC/Sí MC day. In addition to the Midland Chamber of Commerce, the Midland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and Chevron, other community partners are the City of Midland and the Midland Independent School District (MISD). Within the next week, 30,000 fliers promoting the event will be distributed to all MISD students.
